RMAF ATC Talk Down Nite

The RMAF ATC organised a BBQ dinner at Prince Hotel, Jalan Conlay yesterday. Attended by most air traffic control officers from the RMAF. Although I am not an ATC person, I have worked and 'grew-up' in the ATC world , especially RMAF, for the last 17 years. Frankly, I have more ATC friends than those people from my own trade. So, the invitation from the organisor for this dinner was something that I should not be missed. I felt very glad to meet many many old ATC friends ... Talo, BG Clent, Zul, Bush, Chelvam, Sam Panjang, Col Mus, Doosh, Radzi, Zain, Peah, Md Tuah, Ben, Sabarudin, Pak Pin, Simon, Hashim, Gucci and many many more.

If I am not mistaken, the word 'Talk Down' in ATC means to 'bring' the aircraft down to land safely. This term is normally used during one procedure called 'Ground Control Approach or GCA'. During this procedure, a GCA Controller will guide the pilot in order to bring the aircraft down by referring to a special radar display called Precision Approach Radar (PAR) which provides the aircraft glide slope and center line position (localizer). The GCA is specifically used by the military (civil aircraft do not use it) during the absence of Instrument Landing System (ILS). Betui ke? Pls correct me if I am wrong.
